A cutting in the Irish Times, revealing the discovery of a lost Caravaggio ‘The betrayal of Christ’ in the home of the Jesuits in Dublin, triggered distinguished Northern Irish journalist Walter Ellis to head off on an odyssey to find out more about this enigmatic and controversial 16thC/17thC Italian painter.
The result, a fascinating novel (The Caravaggio Conspiracy) which straddles then and now, with both epochs in the West facing Islamic threats, with the Vatican at the epicentre.
