Dr Alasdair McDonnell, the leader of the SDLP, claims residents of Northern Ireland will be up to £700 per head worse off in the wake of the new welfare reform legislation going through Westminster.
Lord Freud and the Secretary of State Owen Paterson are gearing up to defend the Conservative Party theme that “work pays.”
They will give a series of addresses in the coming months in support of the welfare reform legislation. This legislation will necessarily have to be adopted here.
The MP for south Belfast says his party will resist the introduction of this legislation.
