The passing of the ‘The girl from Donegal’ has stirred a thousand memories in people of my generation all over the island of Ireland this morning.

Bridie Gallagher was a pioneering singer and the first big local star to emerge in the fifties. Indeed, she was a springboard for the launch of many other singers who followed her example.
