Controversialist commentator Denis Bradley, has called on First Minister Peter Robinson to clarify his position on his opposition to the Stranmillis College/Queen’s merger. He also urges Mr Robinson to come clean on the reason why he has become so het up over the modernisation of the prison service.
Mr Bradley also speaks frankly on the fall out from Martin McGuinness’s involvement in the Presidential election.
Enjoy listening to one of Ireland’s alternative thinkers….

Wow, here we go again. This time it’s Eamonn Mallie who says that Stranmillis is ”falling down”. Either Eamonn doesn’t read the comments on his own interviews or has decided, despite anecdotal evidence from quite a number of people that Stranmillis is in fact NOT on its structural deathbed, that he will perpetuate the notion that the College estate is comprised of nought but crumbling edifices. Shame on you Eamonn…as a political commentator, you of all people should at least try to verify the facts before making your opinions known. I challenge you to ask the College to allow you to visit the campus so you can see for yourself what state it’s in. If after that you still insist that it’s ”falling down” then I will understand that something in your psyche must separate your view from that of the majority.
Well, Eamonn, what do you say?
As a past student of Stranmillis University College, I am disgusted, yet again to hear the Chairman down grade Stranmillis. In my view, before any final merger decision is made, a similar review of the value of St, Mary’s College needs also be undertaken and an aggregate evaluation of the course work, results, adherence to budget guidelines made. This will allow for a full comparison between both St Mary’s and Stranmillis: A review also needs to outline how each College is committed to promoting inclusively to the needs of the various communities in Northern Ireland. THEN AND ONLY THEN can a true analysis be made to determine if any changes need to be made to meet the ongoing educational, demographic and fiscal needs that will ensure optimal educational training in Northern Ireland and produce the best teachers for Ireland and the British Isles.
We must move forward to integrate all communities, this proposal is not in compliance with section 75. Therefore, to show there is no bias here, St Mary’s need to be evaluated along with Stranmillis. St. Mary’s continues to receive strong backing from the Roman Catholic Church, So, as stated several times, both Colleges need to be equally evaluated and compared to ensure there is NO perception by any community of religious discrimination or inequality shown. This will be in keeping with a shared future.
Why not have St Mary’s and Stranmillis work together to provide excellence in training teachers for our future students: Queen’s and the University of Ulster continue to be higher educational centers to do specialist education/research and collaborate in these areas.
The case for merger, that Stephen Costello has been promoting, is seriously flawed and data produced discredited. Therefore it is time he resigned as he has failed to deliver an inclusive report.
It is in everyone’s best intrest that the whole issue be re-addressed and open to renewed public debate and discussion with other solutions considered.
Move on Stephen Costello as you have failed miserably in being inclusive.
