STATEMENT RE MCCUSKER REPORT INTO POLICE OMBUDSMAN’S OFFICE.

Statement on Behalf of the Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson.

“I welcome the main finding from the McCusker report that there is no evidence of systemic interference by officials from the Department of Justice in the work of this Office.

My Office is independent and it is an independence I will continue to protect.

I also welcome any discussion the Minister and the community wish to have on the structure of this Office as it faces the future and on how society should deal with The Past.

The Report also highlights issues about the actions of the Senior Director of Investigations. I am making immediate arrangements to have those issues investigated independently.

That does not remove what started the action, I believe the comments and actions of the resigning Chief Executive Sam Pollock. They will continue some way.

‘No evidence of SYSTEMIC interference ..’ BUT was there evidence of ANY interference? Somehow this statement from Al Hutchinson leaves me feeling suspicion!
