Gretta Bowen’s exhibition opens on the Antrim Road tonight at Emer Gallery.
Though fundamentally a naïve if not primitive artist this work has a particular charm.
Gretta - mother to the clebrated Irish artist George Campbell came late in life to painting.
There is a wonderful playfulness about it in its colour , composition and disposition.
Art connoisseur Dr Robin Hyndman draws my attention to a really nice ‘piece’ by Gretta Bowen which came up for sale some time ago in Rosss’ Auction rooms.
It portrayed children skating.
It had a wonderful ambience bringing to the viewer the natural unbridled joy of children playing.
Thanks to Pauline, Michael and Eimear Flanagan for keeping ‘the fire lit’ in these gloomy days.
